Box score

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College Pioneers scored the first 15 points of the game en route to an 87-68 win over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night in Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers (13-10, 7-5 SAC) complete the season sweep over the Bulldogs (11-11, 4-7 SAC), while also posting the largest win (19- points) in the 27-game series with Wingate.

Tusculum senior guard Kyle Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) led the way with 35 points, knocking down 6-of-9 from three-point territory and 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Junior forward Rob Troutman (Mt. Washington, Ky.) added a career-best 17 points, senior forward Josh Bennett (Snow Hill, Md.) posted 10 markers and six rebounds, while senior guard Jimmy Boone (Greeneville, Tenn.) contributed nine points and a career-high eight assists in the victory.

Sophomore guard Jaime Vaughn (McDonough, Ga.) led the Bulldogs with 17 points, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the field. Freshman guards Ethan Kincaid (Morganton, N.C.) and Paidrick Matilus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Senior guard/forward David Johnson (Durham, N.C.) had 10 points for the Bulldogs.

The Pioneers came out and hit five consecutive three pointers to take a 15-0 lead in the opening five minutes. Boone and Troutman hit a pair of trifectas each in the early spurt for Tusculum. A Troutman free throw at the 6:48 mark gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the half at 26-6.

A 6-0 run gave Tusculum a 30-point lead nine minutes into the second half, capped by a pair of Moore free throws. The Bulldogs answered with an 18-8 run to cut the lead to 20. Vaughn had 12 consecutive points for Wingate in the spurt. The Bulldogs would get no closer until a three from sophomore guard Chase Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md.) with one second left.

Tusculum shot 50 percent from the field, including 16-of-26 in the second half for 61.5 percent. Tusculum sizzled from long-range, hitting 12-of-21 shots from downtown (57.1 percent), including 8-of-13 in the first half as Tusculum led 35-18 at the intermission.

Wingate shot 38.2 percent from the field, while knocking down 9-of-22 from three-point land (40.9 percent). Tusculum converted 17 Wingate turnovers into 20 points. The Bulldogs held a 37-31 rebounding advantage.

For Moore, it was his eighth game this season with 30 or more points and 13th of his 82-game Tusculum career. Moore has scored 1,673 points in his three seasons in a Pioneer uniform, which are the fifth in Tusculum history and seventh most by a South Atlantic Conference player. He needs 27 points to take over sole possession of fourth place on the Tusculum scoring list and surpass former All-Region forward Shane Banks (1,699 pts.,1996-2000).

Moore did have remarkable string come to an end as he connected on a career-best 33 straight free throws as he made his first 10 foul shots of the night.

Tusculum returns to action on Saturday night as the Pioneers travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to face arch-rival Carson-Newman College for an 8 p.m. contest.
