ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College guard Kyle
Moore has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball
Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday. This marks
the second time this season and the seventh in his career he has
earned this honor.
Moore, a 6-3, 185-pound senior from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 31
points per game to lead the Pioneers to a pair of conference wins
last week. Moore posted back-to-back 31-point performances in
victories over Mars Hill (80-70) and Lenoir-Rhyne (61-56). The
Pioneers, who have won four in a row, have moved into a tie for
first place in the league.
Moore went 9-of-17 from the floor, including 8-of-14 from three-point territory in a 10-point win over Mars Hill. The 2009 SAC Player of the Year shot 5-of-7 from the free throw line and dished out four assists and posted a career-high four steals in the victory.
He followed with 31 points against Lenoir-Rhyne, including 21 in the opening half. Moore matched a career-best with his nine 3-point field goals, which are tied for third most in Tusculum and SAC history.
Moore becomes the first Tusculum player to post consecutive 30-point games in 11 seasons. The last was Shane Banks during the 1998-99 season. The two-time All-SAC performer has accounted for five 30-point games this season and 11 times in his 79-game career at Tusculum.
Moore is currently second in the conference and 10th in the nation (NCAA Division II) in scoring, averaging 23.2 points per contest. Moore leads the SAC in three-point field goals made per game, tallying 3.75 treys per outing, which is 10th in the country. Moore is also shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc, which is 25th in NCAA II.
The Pioneers (12-8, 6-3 SAC) will be on the road on Wednesday to take on fellow SAC co-leader Lincoln Memorial University (16-4, 6-3 SAC) for an 8 p.m. contest in Harrogate, Tenn.
