HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Tusculum University men's beach volleyball team completed its first-ever campaign on Sunday (Nov. 5) against the top-two finishers at this year's AVCA Collegiate Beach Championship, Westcliff and Lincoln Memorial.
Match 1: Westcliff 5, Tusculum 0
Colby Landry and Morgan Makovec pushed the Warriors' No. 4 pair to a decisive third set on Sunday morning. Westcliff later collected its second-straight national title.
The duo attempted to pull off a reverse sweep, but came up short by scores of 17-21, 22-20, 13-15.
As the top pairing, Adam and Noa Svendsen dropped their matchup 21-11, 21-10.
Moving up to No. 2, Kevin Blankenship and Joel Dubinsky had a second-set improvement in their 21-12, 21-18 loss.
In the third flight, Shane O'Neal and Thiago Da Silva fell 21-8, 21-14.
Rounding out the scoring were Tristan Blake and Jabes de la Cruz with an identical 21-16, 21-16 showing.
Match 2: Lincoln Memorial 5, Tusculum 0
The Railsplitters won all five flights in straight sets with Landry and Makovec pushing their second set to overtime at No. 3 (21-10, 22-20).
With a shuffled lineup, Blankenship and Dubinsky returned to the top, falling 21-14, 21-7.
The Svendsens moved to No. 2, dropping a 21-11, 21-12 decision.
O'Neal and Da Silva switched to the 4's, suffering a 21-11, 21-12 loss.
Arthur Della Nina and Corey Long saw their first action of the tournament in the finale, finishing with a 21-10, 21-7 deficit.
