Shannon Showers joined the Tusculum University football coaching staff in Summer 2023 and will serve as a graduate assistant coach and will be responsible for the cornerbacks.

The Gainesville, Florida native comes to Tusculum after earning All-Gulf South Conference accolades at the University of West Florida. In his two seasons in Pensacola, he led the Argonauts to a pair of GSC titles and two trips to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. His UWF teams went a combined 21-4 overall and 12-2 in conference play.

In 2022, he helped the Argonauts to a 12-2 record and a share of the GSC Championship. UWF got hot in the NCAA Division II Playoffs where the Argos won their first three postseason games, including wins over South Atlantic Conference foes, Limestone and Wingate. The Argos would be eliminated in the national semifinal to eventual NCAA champion Ferris State. Showers finished the season with 66 tackles including four pass break-ups and forced a pair of fumbles as West Florida ended the season ranked fourth in the final AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll.

In 2021, he played in 11 games and totaled 28 tackles including 20 solos as UWF went 9-2 overall and 6-1 in league action to win the GCS crown and qualified for the NCAA Playoffs.

He began his collegiate career at NCAA-FBS Southern Miss where he played in 23 games including 10 starts. In 2019, he ranked third on the team with 58 tackles including 35 solo hits. He also made two tackles for loss, had three pass break-ups and posted two interceptions.

He played in 48 career games on the collegiate gridiron where he made 174 tackles with 15 passes defended including five interceptions and 10 break-ups.

Showers holds an associate’s degree in psychology from Southern Miss in 2020 and completed his Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2021. He was a member of the Dean’s List and earned a spot on the GSC All-Academic Team in 2022.
