Mathew James was named to the Tusculum football staff in the Summer of 2021 where he coached the defensive line. He will serve the 2022 season as tight ends coach for the Pioneers.
He joined the TU program after spending the last five seasons on the football staff at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. While with the NCAA FCS program, he was a student assistant with Defensive Quality Control. He participated in game planning and completed all team scouting reports. He worked with the Mocs defensive ends and outside linebackers.
During his time at Chattanooga, the defensive team boasted All-American Isaiah Mack as well as All-Southern Conference standouts Derek Mahaffey and Devonnsha Maxwell.
The Gallatin, Tennesssee native lettered four years on the football team at Station Camp High School.
He earned his bachelor of science degree from Chattanooga in 2021 in health and human performance with a concentration in sport management.
