Corey Headley joined the Tusculum staff in summer of 2023 as an assistant coach and will mentor the running backs.

Headley, a native of Erwin, Tennessee, previously served as the offensive coordinator at Kenyon College during the 2022 campaign where he coached four All-Conference selections including All-American receiver Zach Kim. The Lords averaged 444 offensive yards per game and finished the year with 4,440 total yards which is the third-best single-season output in program history. Kenyon averaged 157.1 rushing yards per game and 286.9 passing yards per contest. The team also compiled a school record 250 first downs.

He coached two seasons (2020-2021) at NCAA-FCS Gardner-Webb University where he coached the tight ends and served as director of football operations for the Runnin’ Bulldogs.  

From 2017-2020 Headley was responsible for the wide receivers and served as recruiting coordinator at Christopher Newport University. Six of his student-athletes earned All-Conference accolades including Newcomer of the Year Cole Blais.

He served as wide receiver and tight end coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from 2015-2017. The Fightin’ Engineers went a combined 16-5 overall including 13-3 in Heartland Conference play. The 2015 team went 8-2 overall and 6-2 in league action, while the 2016 squad went 8-3 overall including 7-1 in the Heartland Conference and claim the title. The team earned a berth to the 2016 NCAA Division III Playoffs, its first postseason appearance in program history.

He served as graduate assistant coach at South Atlantic Conference member Carson-Newman University for the 2013 season where he coached the wide receivers. The Eagles went 10-3 that season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA II Playoffs.

Headley lettered four seasons as a receiver on the Carson-Newman football team from 2009-2012 where the Eagles went a combined 32-16, including 20-8 in league play. His 2009 freshman team went 11-3 while winning the SAC Championship and finished as a NCAA II semifinalist. He wrapped up his collegiate playing career in style as the Eagles went 9-3 and advanced to the NCAA II quarterfinal.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Carson-Newman in 2013 where he majored in education.

He is married to the former Whitley True of Erwin and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Lila and Nora.
