NASHVILLE --- Tusculum University quarterback Matthew Palazzo has been named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association's Offensive College Football Player of the Week. Palazzo earns this honor for a second time this season.
Palazzo, a sophomore from Greeneville, Tennessee, accounted for four touchdowns and passed for 314 yards in Tusculum's 35-7 Homecoming win over UVA Wise last weekend. He threw three TD passes including two for over 70 yards. He also ran for his team-leading sixth rushing touchdown (3rd in SAC / 41st in NCAA II) of the season as the Pioneers have won four of its last five outings.
Palazzo was also named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He is third in the conference averaging 213.7 passing yards per game while his 11 TD completions are also third in the league. He is responsible for 17.3 points per game this season which is best in the conference and 17th nationally.
Tusculum (4-3, 4-1 SAC) returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Emory & Henry for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
