ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University quarterback Tre Simmons has been named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Football Player of the Week.

Simmons, a sophomore from Tampa, Florida, passed for 280 yards and a career-best five touchdowns in TU's 70-13 season-opening win over St. Augustine's University last Thursday night.

Simmons went 14-of-24 with four of his TD tosses covering 20 or more yards in his two-and-a-half quarters of action. His scoring tosses covered distances of 58, 20, 7, 32 and 42 yards.

His five touchdown passes are tied for the third most in school history as the Pioneers scored 70 points for the first time in eight seasons and the fifth-highest offensive output in program history.

Tusculum (1-0) returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Chowan University (0-1) for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Pioneers will be looking to avenge last season's 46-38 double overtime loss to the Hawks.
