Cauthen named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas --- Tusculum University's Jackson Cauthen has been named to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society.

Cauthen, a linebacker from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, led the Pioneers in tackles this spring with 24 stops in his five starts. Tusculum went 4-1 this spring and defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 28-23 last Saturday to win the South Atlantic Conference Championship, the program's third SAC title and fourth overall in school history.

Cauthen has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average while majoring in nursing. He will graduate from Tusculum next month with honors and is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum President's List, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honor Roll and the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He has been named to the Division II Athletic Directors Association Honor Roll on two occasions and was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District football first team in 2019.

To qualify for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, a student-athlete must: be a starter or significant reserve in one's last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university; achieve a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout the entire course of undergraduate study; and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

In 2019, Cauthen led the Pioneers with 15 tackles for loss and was second on the roster with 75 total tackles, which were also the fifth-most in the league. He was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference second team and was tabbed the SAC Defensive Player of the Week for his eight-tackle performance against UNC Pembroke, which included a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown.

During his 24-game career with the Pioneers, he has amassed 117 total tackles including 20 for loss with two interceptions, two pass break-ups,
