Team Black wins Tusculum Spring Game, 24-20

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Quarterback Malcolm Pendergrass passed for 273 yards and three touchdowns to lead Team Black to a 24-20 victory over Team White at the 2015 Tusculum College football spring game Saturday afternoon.

Pendergrass went 15-for-27 as he completed scoring tosses of eight, 24 and 42 yards with zero interceptions. He also rushed for 23 yards on six carries.

Ken Funnye was his top target of the day as he made four receptions for 100 yards, including the 42-yard scoring strike. Running back Isaac Robinson accounted for four catches for 85 yards, while All-American receiver Justin Houston tallied four grabs for 45 yards. Ken Drummond also hauled in a pair of touchdowns for Team Black.

Linebacker Ahlija Blake led Team Black defensively with eight tackles, while linebacker Devin Starnes finished with seven stops.

Cameron Tallent had a solid outing for Team White under center as the rising senior quarterback went 15-for-22 for 190 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Neil Lee led Team White with six catches for 80 yards, while Evan Altizer tallied three grabs for 86 yards, including a 21-yard TD toss. DJ Samuels was the target on Tallent's other TD, which covered 14 yards.

Linebacker L'Keith Brown, the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Defensive Freshman of the Year, anchored the Team White defense with his eight tackles, including two for loss. Quez Gaines also added eight stops, while Brandyn Bartlett finished with seven hits for Team White.

Luke Manning went 5-for-8 for 64 yards, including a touchdown. Rodnell Cruell posted three receptions for 31 yards and tight end Jaylynn Kesterson added a pair of catches for 22 yards for Team White.

The Tusculum defense forced two turnovers and recorded 4-of-7 red zone stops.

The Pioneers will open the 2015 season on Sept. 5th at the University of Virginia's College at Wise.
