NASHVILLE --- Tusculum College running back D.J. Haney has been named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association's College Football Offensive Player of the Week.
Haney, a 5-10, 235-pound freshman from Greeneville, Tennessee, rushed for a season-high 171 yards on 19 carries, including three touchdowns in Tusculum's 49-10 South Atlantic Conference win over Brevard College.
Haney averaged nine yards per carry as his rushing yardage total is tied for the 10th-best in program history and the most by a Tusculum player this century.
It was his second straight 100-yard performance, becoming only the first TC running back to achieve the feat since Aaron Claridy posted back-to-back century games in 2000.
Tusculum (5-5, 3-3 SAC) has rebounded from a 1-4 start to the season to win three straight games and four of its last five. The Pioneers will wrap up its season on Saturday when they travel to cross-mountain rival Mars Hill University at 1 p.m.
