NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College defensive
end Caushaud Lyons has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers
Association College Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Lyons, a 6-5, 295-pound senior defensive end from Ellenwood,
Georgia, posted seven tackles, four tackles for loss and a pair of
sacks to help the Pioneers to a 14-10 win over Wingate University
on Saturday. The win snapped a 20-game road losing streak, while
posting TC's first win at Wingate since 2002.
Lyons (Woodland HS) also finished with a game-high five quarterback
hurries and a pass break-up as Tusculum rallied from a 10-0
deficit, while shutting out the Bulldogs in the second half.
His tackles for loss tally are a career-best and tied for the fifth most in program history. He was also named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Lyons leads the Pioneers with his 67 tackles, which are the most by a defensive lineman in both the league and the region. His tackles totals are also the fourth-most this year by a NCAA Division II lineman.
Tusculum (3-5, 2-3 SAC) returns home to host UNC Pembroke (1-6) in a non-conference contest at Pioneer Field. TC will be honoring its football seniors prior to Saturday's 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
