PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Tusculum College's Xzanvion
Smith has been named to the 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II
All-America Football Team announced officials Friday.
Smith, a 5-11, 190-pound junior from Anderson, S.C., was named the
All-America third team all-purpose player as he becomes the 26th
player in program history to earn All-America distinction.
The consensus All-Region selection finished as the top all-purpose performer in the South Atlantic Conference, averaging 150.45 yards per game, which is 23rd in the country.
The 2012 All-South Atlantic Conference standout finished with 1,013 receiving yards this year, which is third in the league and 25th in the country. The Westside High School product becomes only the fourth player in school history to post 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He scored 10 touchdowns, which are tied for the fifth most in the league.
Smith tallied eight TD receptions and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, covering 83 and 79 yards. He averaged 23.78 yards per kickoff return (8th in TC history), which is second in the conference and 50th in the nation. He returned 27 kickoffs (5th in TC history) for 642 yards (3rd in TC history) this season. He averaged 6.27 receptions (4th in SAC/30th in NCAA II) and 92.09 receiving yards per game (3rd in SAC/27th in NCAA II).
The Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
The Don Hansen Football Committee selected All-Super Region teams in December and early January, with the first-team and second-team All-Super Region players advancing to the national ballot.
A total of 175 players earned some form of Don Hansen All-America honors. Players from 83 of the 157 football-playing schools in Division II earned Don Hansen All-America accolades.
Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference.
