Rosetti, Pioneers listed in NCAA football statistics

INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum's Andy Rosetti continues to be listed amongst the national leaders in punting according to this week's NCAA Division II football statistics.

Rosetti, a junior from Kenneth City, Fla., is averaging 42.45 yards per punt, which is second in the South Atlantic Conference and 14th in the country. The 2011 All-SAC Second Team standout is averaging 46 yards per punt in his last three games, while his seasonal average this year is currently the third highest in school history.

Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell is listed in four statistical categories, including third in completions per game, averaging 31.5 per contest. Cordell is also seventh in total passing yards (2,590), eighth in passing yards per game (323.75 ypg) and ninth in total offense (331.5 ypg).

Cordell (Cincinnati, Ohio) owns nearly every passing and total offensive record in both school and conference history and he now has his eyes set on the national record book. Cordell owns 32 school, SAC and NCAA records so far in his 32-game career. He is closing in on another national mark as he needs 90 more completions to break the DII all-time record held by Steven Gachette of Southwest Missouri from 2007-10 (1,119 completions).

His 11,691 career passing yards are 11th in NCAA II history, while his 11,655 total offensive yards are 17th in the DII record book. The 2010 Harlon Hill Trophy finalist needs 3,043 passing yards for the DII record held by West Liberty's Zach Amedro (14,733 from 2007-10) and 4,410 total offensive yards for national record of 16,064, achieved by East Stroudsburg's Jimmy Terwilliger.

Junior linebacker Brian Alexander (Union City, Ga.) is third in the conference in tackles per game, averaging 9.88 stops per game, which is 36th in the country. Alexander has posted 79 tackles this year, including 10 each in his last four straight games. His 224 career tackles and 30 hits behind the line of scrimmage are both tied for eighth most in TC history.

Junior receiver Xzanvion Smith (Anderson, S.C.) is mentioned five times in this week's NCAA statistical report. His 835 total receiving yards are eighth in the nation, while his 104.38 receiving yards per game average is 11th in the division. Smith is also 25th in all-purpose yards per game (153.75 ypg), 24th in receptions per game (6.75 rpg), 25th in all-purpose yards (153.75 ypg) and 33rd in kickoff returns (26.33 ypr).

Senior running back Brian Marshall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) had his season ended when he was injured on the opening kickoff of the second half of last Saturday's game with Newberry. Marshall, who had to be removed from the field by ambulance and was hospitalized for two days, is expected to make a complete recovery and is back on campus. Marshall is listed four times in latest NCAA statistics report, including 16th in all-purpose yards (163.5 ypg), 35th in punt returns (10.83 ypr), 40th in kickoff returns (25.95 ypr) and 46th in receptions per game (5.88 rpg).

The Pioneers are listed in three team categories, including 10th in passing yards per game (328.75), 17th in net punting (37.42 ypp) and 17th in kickoff returns (24.24 ypr).

Tusculum (2-6, 1-3 SAC) returns to action this Saturday when the Pioneers take on cross-mountain rival Mars Hill (5-3, 4-1 SAC) for a 1 p.m. contest from Meares Stadium in Mars Hill, N.C. The Lions are listed second in this year inaugural NCAA II Super Region 2 rankings.
