ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Lyall
Harrison and John Gregory have been named the South Atlantic
Conference Football Players of the Week announced officials
Monday. Harrison was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week,
while Gregory garnered Special Teams Player of the Week
accolades.
Harrison, a 6-1, 205-pound junior defensive back, recorded four
tackles and two interceptions to lead the Pioneers to a 38-28 SAC
win over Mars Hill. His first career interception stopped a MHC
drive. His second interception was a miraculous play as a MHC
receiver slid for a low catch, but the ball deflected off his hands
and was hauled in by a diving Harrison, who stayed in bounds to get
the turnover. The pick set up the second of two in the final two
minutes of the half as Tusculum rallied from a 13-7 deficit.
Harrison finished the game with three solo tackles and three passes
defended.
Gregory, 6-2, 210-pound senior from Ooltewah, Tenn., averaged 49
yards on his four punts in Saturday's win over the Lions (No. 5 in
Super Region 2). Gregory pinned Mars Hill inside its 20-yard line
on all four of his punts, including two inside the 10-yard line.
Three of his four punts covered exactly 56 yards. Gregory leads
the conference, averaging 41.8 yards per punt, which is the
fourth-best average in school history. He is Tusculum's all-time
leader in punts (215), punting yards (8,966) and average (41.70
avg.). This marks the ninth time in his storied career that
Gregory has been named SAC Player of the Week.
The Pioneers (3-6, 2-4 SAC) have won their last two games and will travel to nationally-ranked Carson-Newman College (8-2, 6-0 SAC) for TC's season-finale. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City, Tenn.
