GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University Spirit Squad will be holding tryouts for the 2021-2022 cheer and dance teams on Saturday, August 28th in the TU auxiliary gym on the Greeneville campus. There will also be tryouts for mascot. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

Participants are asked to bring the following: Letter of acceptance for enrollment to Tusculum University or a current Tusculum Student ID, a $25 tryout fee (checks made to Tusculum Spirit Squad), signed release form, a recent physical (dated after January 1, 2021), and insurance card or a front and back copy. 

All cheer participants will learn one cheer, one chant, and the Tusculum Fight Song Dance. Cheerleaders will need to show stunting and tumbling skills, demonstrate jumps, and clean sharp motions.

Dance Team participants will demonstrate jumps, leaps, turns, and kicks. They will also learn the TU Fight Song and a chant. All dancers will need to come prepared with a 45-second tryout routine, with music downloaded on a USB.

Female participants are asked to have hair pulled back from their face, wear game day makeup, and wear white fitted t-shirt, black shorts, and cheer or dance shoes. The attire for male attendees is a white t-shirt, black shorts, and either athletic, cheer, or dance shoes.

Each participant will also have a five minute interview with the Spirit Squad staff. 

This is a closed session with only participants, coaches, and judges permitted.

After tryouts are concluded, the teams will be announced and there will be a team meeting with an information session to close out the day.
