JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- Logan Floyd went 3-for-4 to lead 11th-ranked Carson-Newman to a 16-6 win over Tusculum in eight innings Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Complex in non-conference baseball action.
The Eagles (20-6) recorded 17 hits on the day including six of the extra-base variety. C-N also got multiple-hit performances from Spencer Williams, Tanner Kilgore, Nicholas Castellana, Cole Nathan and Ryan Bolton.
The Pioneers (8-18) tallied nine hits on the afternoon including 2-for-4 outings by Ryan Ortega and Jack Gagen.
Carson-Newman jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed. The Eagles also plated two runs in the second, five in the third, one in the fourth and posted four runs in the bottom of the eighth including a two-run homer by Luke Goforth to end the contest.
Christian Henderson picked up the victory in relief as he went four innings, allowed five hits, three runs, two earned and posted a strikeout to improve to 2-2 on the season. Tusculum starter Payne Ladd (0-1) suffered the loss.
Tusculum reliever Mason Huffstickler pitched three shutout innings as he limited the nationally-ranked Eagles to one hit with a strikeout in his 34-pitch effort.
Tusculum returns to South Atlantic Conference play this weekend as the Pioneers travel to Mars Hill for a three-game series. The series will begin on Friday with a 3 p.m. single-game followed by a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday from Henderson Field.
