Pioneers sweep SAC pair at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. --- Daalen Adderley recorded pair of doubles and a home run to lead the seventh-ranked Tusculum University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Anderson University Friday at Memorial Stadium in South Atlantic Conference action.

Adderley belted a home run in his third straight game as Tusculum prevailed 6-2 in the opener. In the night-cap, TU used a pair of five-run innings to complete the sweep, 14-6.

Tusculum (21-6, 17-5 SAC) remains atop the league standings and is riding a three-game winning streak. Anderson falls to 10-14 overall and 8-12 in the league and have lost three in a row.

The Pioneers accounted for nine extra-base hits on the day including six doubles and three home runs while going a perfect 11-of-11 in stolen bases including four thefts by centerfielder Kyle Williams.

The two teams will wrap-up the four-game weekend series on Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

Game 1: No. 7 Tusculum 6, Anderson 2

Adderley went 2-for-3 with three RBI including a double and his third home run in as many games in the Pioneers' 6-2 win over the Trojans.

Tusculum overcame an early 1-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the fourth inning highlighted by back-to-back RBI doubles from Luis Ezra and Adderley. Murphy Flood tacked on a sacrifice fly as TU led 3-1.

Anderson got a run back in the bottom of the frame, but Adderley gave Tusculum the cushion it needed with his two-run homer to right field and a 5-2 advantage. TU would add a run in the seventh to provide the final margin of victory.

TU starting pitcher Gunner Becker moved his record to 6-1 as he went five innings, allowed two runs on three hits, but walked five and fanned one. His six pitching victories are the most in the conference. TU relief act Mitch McCain tossed two hitless innings with a walk and five strikeouts to notch his SAC-leading fifth save of the year and 12th of his career moving him into sole possession of fifth place in program history.

Fuzzy Furr drew three walks and scored two runs, while Williams had a base hit and two stolen bases.

The Trojans were held to three hits on the day while Brayden Owens tallied a pair of RBI in the loss.

Game 2: No. 7 Tusculum 14, Anderson 6

Brandon Trammell went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Jordan Beaver tallied a pair of hits including a home run and three RBI as Tusculum prevailed 14-6.

TU starter Nick Flesher improved to 3-0 on the season as he went six innings, allowed eight hits, four runs, three earned, walked three and had six strikeouts.

Tusculum finished the game with 13 hits while posting eight walks, four hit batters and seven stolen bases including two each from Williams and Adderley.

The Pioneers plated two runs in the top of the second inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Williams and Daulton Martin to take a 2-0 lead. Anderson scratched a run in the bottom of the second, but back came Tusculum as the Black & Orange got a lead-off single from Trammell and Fuzzy Furr followed with his fourth homer of the season.

Anderson scored a run in the fourth inning, but the Pioneers batted around as TU plated five runs including a two-run double off the bat of Flood and a two-run homer by Beaver.

With the score being 9-4, Tusculum added five runs to the scoreboard as the Pioneers batted around again with Trammell's two-run double highlighting the frame.

Trammell finished the game with three hits, while Beaver, Williams and Martin each had two hits apiece.
