Carpenter tabbed NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week

PEMBROKE, N.C. --- Tusculum right-hander Ethan Carpenter has been named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week as selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Carpenter, a senior from Polkville, North Carolina, pitched a three-hitter in Tusculum's 8-1 South Atlantic Conference win over Wingate last Friday night.

Carpenter, who was also named the AstroTurf SAC Pitcher of the Week, was dominant throughout the game blanking the Bulldogs through the first 6 2/3 innings before surrendering a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.  He recorded a career-best 11 strikeouts with only one walk in his 125-pitch performance.

The win was also the 21st of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth place on the program's all-time pitching wins list.  It was his third complete game of the season and fifth of his career.

The 2017 All-SAC first team honoree also moved into sole possession of second place on Tusculum's career strikeout list. His 223 strikeouts moves him past TC Sports Hall of Famer Ken Hughes (218, 1991-1994).

The Pioneers (27-18) will open postseason play on Thursday as fifth-seeded Tusculum takes on No. 8 seed Wingate in a single-elimination game at the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Championship.  The game will start at 4 p.m. and will be held at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee.
