Victoriano, Lacina named to NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team

COLUMBUS, Ga. --- Tusculum College baseball student-athletes Kevin Victoriano and Nick Lacina have been named to the 2016 NCAA Division II Southeast Region All-Tournament Team announced officials Monday afternoon. The seven-team, double-elimination tournament was held last week at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.

Victoriano, a senior from Bronx, New York, was one of the three outfielder honored on the All-Tournament squad. He recorded a hit in all four regional games he appeared in as he finished with five hits including his two-run homer against Mount Olive in Sunday's first elimination game of the regional, which sparked Tusculum to a 3-2 victory over the Trojans. He also went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in TC's 7-1 win over 15th-ranked Belmont Abbey on Saturday to eliminate the Crusaders. On the week, the 2016 NCBWA All-Region first team choice batted .313 with a team-high four RBI to go along with three runs scored, two walks and struck out only once in his 18 plate appearances.

On the year, Victoriano led the Pioneers with his 18 home runs, which are the second most in the league this season and fifth-most in program history. He also paced the Pioneers with a team-best 54 runs scored, 30 walks and 45 RBI. In his 55 outings, the 2016 All-SAC first team selection batted .316.

Lacina was named the tournament's top designated hitter as he batted .400 with in his four starts with three RBI and a team-best .471 on-base percentage. The junior from St. Paul, Minnesota tallied a hit in all four tournament outings. He went 2-for-4 in the regional opener against 19th-ranked USC Aiken last Thursday and followed with another two-hit performance in TC's elimination win over Belmont Abbey. In that game, he tallied two RBI and recorded his 17th double of the season. We reached base safely with a single and two walks in TC's win over Mount Olive. He finished the tournament with a RBI single in Sunday's 8-2 loss in the rematch against USC Aiken in the regional elimination bracket final.

Lacina, who also earned a spot on the 2016 SAC All-Tournament Team, led the Pioneers with his .382 batting average, which was fifth in the league this season. He also led TC with his 17 doubles (5th in SAC) his 66 hits. Lacina tallied two triples, two home runs and 32 RBI.

The Pioneers posted a 2-2 record in the tournament to claim third place honors in the Southeast Regional. No. 13 Lander won the regional as the Bearcats went undefeated on the weekend, including a 5-3 win over USC Aiken in Monday's championship game to advance to the DII College World Series in Cary, North Carolina.

Tusculum finished the year with a 38-18 overall record, including wins in five of its last seven games. The Pioneers captured a share of the 2016 SAC Tournament title for the program's fourth league postseason crown. TC earned the program its seventh NCAA II Tournament appearance, which are the second most of any SAC member. The Pioneers have accounted for 16 consecutive winning seasons, including 14 straight 30-win campaigns.
