
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Andrew Bowerman went 3-for-4 and scored four runs to lead the Tusculum College baseball team to a 13-3 victory over Bluefield State College Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Park in the season finale for both teams.
The Pioneers (33-19) wrap up their 15th consecutive winning season and the 13th in a row with 30 more wins. TC ends the season with a four-game winning streak, including this weekend's three-game sweep over the Big Blues (9-34).
The Pioneers finished the game with 13 hits, including senior Chris Waylock's 2-for-4 performance as he posted four RBI. Jeovanny Tolentino accounted for a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI.
Tusculum jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Waylock came through with a two-out, two-run single to drive in Bowerman and Tolentino. The Big Blues answered with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, including Justin Bowler's two-out single as BSC tied the game at 2-2.
TC responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and followed with four runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead. In the sixth, senior Travis Winnon lined a triple into the right field gap, with the bases loaded, to provide the big hit of the frame.
Tusculum tacked on three more runs in the seven, including senior Jeremiah Tullidge's two-run double in his final collegiate plate appearance.
Reliever Dalton Boslooper picked up the victory as he recorded five strikeouts and allowed one hit in his 2 1/3 shutout innings to move his record to 2-0 on the year. Bluefield State pitcher Brandon Tucker suffered the loss (4-8).
The Big Blues finished with six hits, including Bowler's 2-for-2 performance.
Tusculum's 33 wins are tied for the eighth most in program history. TC also wrapped up a successful home campaign, going 25-4 in the friendly confines of Pioneer Park. The 25 home wins are the third-most in TC history, while the .862 home winning percentage is the second highest in a season.
Sunday was the last opportunity for several Tusculum seniors to play in their final collegiate game and nine Pioneers did so on the field including: Andrew Bowerman, Nick Rodriguez, Jeremiah Tullidge, Travis Winnon, Chris Waylock, Jalen Shuffler, Vinny Ferrara, Scott Gibson and Michael Scott.
