GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Matt Henriksen hit three home runs, including a grand slam in his final collegiate at-bat in Tusculum's 13-3 season-finale win over visiting Shorter Tuesday night at Pioneer Park.

The Pioneers (33-18) belted out 14 hits, while six Tusculum pitchers limited the Hawks (15-33) to a pair of singles on the night.

Henriksen finished with seven RBI and recorded a pair of walks as he reached base in each of his five plate appearances.

Senior Cade Stallings also had a three-hit night, including a single in his final at-bat. Sophomore Jalen Shuffler added a 3-for-4 performance, while junior Trey Drewery went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in TC's fourth straight win to close out the 2013 campaign.

Tusculum starter Clark Ayers (1-1) earned his first victory in a Pioneer uniform as he tossed five strong innings, allowing two unearned runs on a pair hits, one walk and struck out five in his 67-pitch performance.

TC plated three runs in the first inning as Vinny Ferrara led off with a single and moved to second on Stallings' first hit of the game. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball and Ferrara scored on Heath Comerford's sacrifice fly. With two outs, Henriksen clubbed a two-run blast to left field for a 3-0 Tusculum lead.

The Pioneers looked to be in business again in the second inning when Andrew Bowerman and Shuffler led off with back-to-back hits. Tripper Crisson was called on to bunt, but his attempt was snagged in mid-air by starting pitcher Russell Crosby (2-9). Both TC runners were on the move as the Hawks converted the rare triple play to end the inning.

Shorter took advantage of a walk, a hit batsman, an error and a passed ball to score twice in the third inning to draw within a run (3-2).

Tusculum got one of those runs back on Comerford's RBI double in the bottom of the frame. It was his 20th double of the year, tying him for the league-lead in that category and tied for the fourth-most in a TC single-season.

TC added two more runs in the fourth inning thanks to a pair of walks and two hits, including a two-out, two-run single by Drewery.

Shuffler made it a 7-2 contest with his RBI infield hit in the fifth inning.

After Shorter scored a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3, Henriksen hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot to left field.

Tusculum opened the floodgates in the eighth inning with five runs, including Henriksen's two-out grand slam to left field to provide the final margin.

Pioneer closer John-Austin Shepard got the first two outs in the ninth, before relinquishing the mound to graduate student Taylor Rakes, who recorded the final out to end the game and the season for Tusculum.

Henriksen's three home runs are the second most in a Tusculum single-game, one behind Matt Riggs' school and South Atlantic Conference record four homer performance at West Virginia State in 2005. Henriksen finishes the year with 13 home runs, the second-most in the SAC this season and seventh most in a year at Tusculum. He wraps up his career with 27 home runs, which are tied for the fifth most in school history. His seven-RBI performance moved him into sole possession of second place on the career RBI list with 147. In his 181 games, he finished second in doubles (52), third in runs scored (148), third in total bases (335), fifth in walks (91), sixth in hits (196), sixth in sacrifice bunts (18), sixth in fielding assists (345), seventh in hit by pitch (20), seventh in sacrifice flies (11) and seventh in at-bats (613).

Rakes, who recorded his 26th win on Saturday (2nd most in TC history), ends his stellar career as the program's all-time leader in innings pitched (285). He also finishes second in career strikeouts (209), second in starts (45), fourth in complete games and 10th in career earned run average (3.66).

In his two seasons at Tusculum, Stallings finished with a .345 batting average, while recording 103 hits, including 27 doubles, 16 home runs and 97 RBI. In just 109 games (all starts), he was hit by a pitch on 24 occasions, the fourth most in TC history. His 13 sacrifice flies in a Pioneer uniform are the also fourth in the Pioneer record book.

In just his 107 games at Tusculum, Crisson will leave as the program's all-time leader with 34 sacrifice bunts, while his 328 fielding assists are the eighth most in school history.

Ferrara closed out the 2013 season with a 10-game hitting streak, batting .432 (16-for-37) during that 10-game span.
