Comerford named NCBWA Region Player of the Week

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- Tusculum first baseman Heath Comerford has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region Player of the Week announced league officials Wednesday.

Comerford, 6-4, 210-pound junior from Athens, Tenn., hit .556 with a pair of walk-off hits as Tusculum went 3-2 on the week, including a series victory over conference foe Wingate. For his efforts, he was also named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week.

He hit a 10th-inning walk-off double last Tuesday in an 11-10 victory over Trevecca Nazarene. In the game, he finished going 5-for-5 with three doubles, a triple and a home run. The three doubles tied a school single-game record, while his 13 total bases were the second most in program history.

Comerford closed out the weekend series finale with Wingate with a three-run homer to beat the Bulldogs 4-3.

In all, Comerford had 10 hits on the week along with eight RBI and drew five walks. He had a .652 on-base percentage and a 1.222 slugging percentage.
