GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Heath Comerford went 5-for-5 including his walk-off double in the 10th inning as the Tusculum baseball team rallied from behind on three separate occasions to defeat visiting Trevecca Nazarene, 11-10 Tuesday at Pioneer Park.

The Pioneers (25-14) and Trojans combined for 21 runs and 30 hits on the evening. Of TC's 17 hits, 10 went for extra bases including eight doubles, which were one shy of a school single-game mark.

Comerford tied school record with his three doubles to go along with a triple and a home run as he came up a single shy of hitting for the cycle.

Trailing 9-6 heading to the bottom of the ninth, Tusculum plated three runs utilizing a pair of walks, a hit batter and Taylor Foster's two-run, two-out double to send the contest into extra innings. Comerford and Matt Henriksen led off the ninth with back-to-back walks. After a fielder's choice got the first out of the inning to place runners on the corners, Joe Polichetti drove in the first run with his RBI groundout to score Comerford from third. Vinny Ferrara was hit by a pitch to place runners at first and second. Before Foster could get his chance at the plate, both runners moved into scoring position on a failed pickoff attempt at first base. Foster followed by sending a fly ball to the right field gap that eluded the diving TNU outfielder to score the tying runs.

In the top of the 10th inning, the Trojans rallied with two outs as Cameron Boyett hit a liner off the foot of pitcher Josh Jaro to put the go-ahead run aboard. TC reliever John-Austin Shepard came on and Boyett moved to second on a wild pitch. Nick Howell stepped up with a base hit through the right side as Boyett avoided the tag at the plate to give TNU a 10-9 advantage. Howell, who moved to second base on the throw to the plate, advanced to third on the second wild pitch of the inning by Shepard. During the play, TC catcher Brad Barwick had difficulty tracking down the ball as Howell motored around third and headed for home. But Barwick came up with the ball and threw out Howell at the plate to hold the contest to a single-run deficit (10-9).

In the bottom of the inning, Tripper Crisson connected on his second double of the game and scored on Cade Stalling's ensuing base hit to knot the game at 10-10. With the winning run at first, Comerford doubled off the wall in right center as Stallings hurried home with the game-winning score.

Comerford generated the first three runs of the game for Tusculum as he launched a liner over the center field wall for a three-run blast and his sixth home run of the season.

TNU added a run in the second inning on back-to-back doubles off the bats of Blake Rogers and Corey Crunk. The Trojans gained their first lead of the game as the visitors scored four times in the fourth inning, thanks to four hits highlighted by Tyler Tichenor's two-run triple down the right field line for a 5-3 advantage.

Tusculum tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a pair of hits and a TNU fielding error. After Stallings reached on a one-out fielding error, Comerford drove him in with his second double of the evening. He advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on Henriksen's double down the left field line.

The score would remain deadlocked until the seventh when Trevecca Nazarene tallied four runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Hunter Newman and Rogers second double of the game. TNU also took advantage of a TC fielding error as two more runs would eventually score.

Tusculum scored a run in the eighth inning on Pat Holleran's one-out single, before the Pioneers posted its late-inning heroics.

Shepard picked up the win in relief to move his record to 5-1 on the year, while TNU reliever Dakota Angell (1-4) suffered the loss for the Trojans.

Six players tallied multi-hit performances for Trevecca Nazarene, including Rogers' two-double performance.

TC's eight doubles were one shy of the school record of nine, set against Carson-Newman on Apr. 4, 2004.

Comerford also finished the game with 13 total bases, which are the second most in school history, three off the mark set by Matt Riggs in 2005 against West Virginia State as he homered four times for his TC-best 16 total bases.

Comerford and Stallings each scored three runs apiece, while the Trojans' Jordan Foreman, Newman and Rogers tallied two runs each.

Tusculum returns to action on Wednesday as the Pioneers travel to Bristol, Tenn. to face King University for a 3 p.m. contest.
