Henriksen, Pioneers listed in NCAA baseball statistics

INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum second baseman Matt Henriksen is nationally ranked in five statistical categories in this week's NCAA Division II baseball statistics.

Seven Pioneers are listed in this week's individual report, while Tusculum is ranked in 11 team categories.

Henriksen, a senior from Hingham, Mass., is fifth in the nation with his nine home runs, which is the second-best homer tally in the South Atlantic Conference. He is also 21st in total bases (79), 29th in slugging percentage (.664) and 29th in doubles (13).

Junior reliever John-Austin Shepard is fourth in the nation with his eight saves. The Haymarket, Va. product leads the league with his eight saves, which tie a TC single-season mark, matching the tally Shepard posted in 2012 and Wes Hill's eight saves in 2006. The All-SAC first team selection has recorded 19 saves in his career, which are second in school history and the fifth most in the SAC record book.

Junior first baseman Heath Comerford (Athens, Tenn.) is listed 29th in the country with his 13 doubles.

Senior shortstop Tripper Crisson (Lincolnton, N.C.) is ninth in the country with his 10 sacrifice bunts. In his two seasons with TC, he has accounted for 30 successful bunts, which are the most in school history. The 2013 Preseason All-SAC first team choice has laid down a sacrifice bunt in four of his last five contests.

Senior right-handed pitcher Adam Sigmon is 48th in pitching wins (5) as the Taylorsville, N.C. native has been victorious in four of his last five starts. He has posted a 5-3 record in his eight starts this season.

Right-hander Taylor Rakes (Norcross, Ga.) is 18th in NCAA II with his 57 strikeouts and tied for fifth nationally with his nine mound starts, along with junior Zeke McGranahan (Durham, N.C.).

As a team, the Pioneers are 18th in the country with their 22 home runs so far this season. TC is also 10th in sacrifice flies (21), 21st in sacrifice bunts (34), 23rd in doubles (70), 28th in double plays turned (26), 48th in slugging percentage (.432), 50th in stolen bases (50), 33rd in runs scored (221), 41st in hits (321) and 43rd in base on balls (124).

The Pioneers (22-13, 12-9 SAC) return to action this weekend for a three-game conference series at Lenoir-Rhyne, starting with Friday's 6 p.m. opener.
