
INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College baseball
team leads the nation in sacrifice flies according to this week's
NCAA Division II statistics.
The Pioneers are ranked in 14 team categories, while five players
are mentioned nine times individually.
Tusculum has recorded 34 sacrifice flies this year, which are
the second most in a single-season at the Greeneville, Tenn.
school.
The Pioneers are also second in second in bases on balls (253),
fourth in runs scored (420), fourth in hits (556), ninth in doubles
(110), ninth in hit by pitch (75 - school record), 12th in home
runs (47), 16th in scoring (8.2 runs per game), 18th in slugging
percentage (.489), 25th in batting average (.325), 32nd in triples
(15), 43rd in strikeouts per nine innings pitched (7.7), 48th in
double plays turned (37) and 50th in stolen bases (75).
All-South Atlantic Conference First Team outfielder Alexi Colon (Vineland, N.J.) is ranked in the top 50 in six statistical categories, including: seventh in runs batted in (62), 12th in bases on balls (38), 18th in home runs (12), 26th in total bases (113), 29th in runs scored (50) and 37th in sacrifice flies (5).
Senior All-American catcher Sean Cotten (Mooresville, N.C.) is ranked three categories, including: 25th in walks (34), 29th in runs scored (50) and 37th in sacrifice flies (5).
All-Conference outfielder Rolondo Bonner (Garner, N.C.) is listed twice, including 36th in runs (49) and 37th in sacrifice flies (5). Senior shortstop Branfy Arias (LaRomana, D.R) is also mentioned on two occasions and is listed 26th in sacrifice bunts (10) and 41st in hit by pitch (13).
All-SAC First Team pitcher Craig Goodman (Clearwater, Fla.) is tops on the team with eight victories, which are 26th in the nation and tied for first in the conference.
The Pioneers finished the season with a 33-18 overall record, the program's 11th straight winning campaign and ninth consecutive with at least 30 wins.
