NEW YORK --- Former Tusculum College pitcher Raymond Ruggles was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 43rd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft announced officials Wednesday.

Ruggles, a 6-2, 200-pound right-handed pitcher from Newport, Tenn., posted a 15-9 record during his career at Tusculum. He tallied a 3-3 record with the Pioneers this past spring, mostly out of the TC bullpen where he accounted for a pair of saves and a 4.76 earned run average.

In 2008, Ruggles earned a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II All-South Region Second Team as he posted a 4-2 record in his seven starts. He accounted for a school single-season record 1.62 ERA as he also garnered All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team accolades, while limiting the opposition to hit just .213 against him.

In his first Tusculum campaign in 2007, Ruggles went 8-4 on the mound with a 2.61 ERA. His 14 starts were tied for the second most in the league and tied for the third most ever by a Pioneer hurler. He also finished third in the SAC with 89.2 innings pitched, while his 67 strikeouts were fifth in the conference and 10th most in a TC single-season.

Ruggles wrapped up his TC career with a 2.78 ERA, which is the third lowest in school history, while his 27 career starts and 143 career strikeouts are both seventh in Tusculum history. He is also 10th all-time in career wins (15), 10th in career innings pitched (175.2) and tied for ninth in career complete games (5).

During his storied career, he led Tusculum to a pair of South Atlantic Conference titles (2007, 2009), a SAC Tournament championship (2008) and three trips to the NCAA II Tournament (2007, 2008, 2009).
