
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College catcher Sean Cotten
has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the
Week announced league officials Monday.
Cotten, 6-2, 185-pound junior from Mooresville, N.C., went 9-for-16 (.562), including four home runs and 14 RBI to lead the Pioneers to a perfect 4-0 record. TC posted a win over Southeast Region opponent Limestone, followed by a three-game sweep at Lincoln Memorial.
The Lake Norman High School graduate opened the week with a 2-for-4 effort in Tusculum's 9-6 win over Limestone.
In Tusculum's 23-15 victory at LMU in the series opener, Cotten went 3-for-5 with two homers and a career-best seven RBI. The RBI tally is tied for the second most in Tusculum single-game history.
In TC's 16-11 win over the Railsplitters in the second game of the series, he accounted for a home run and followed with a perfect 3-for-3 effort, including three RBI and his fourth round-tripper of the week in Tusculum's 17-10 win over LMU.
On the week, he scored six runs and posted a staggering 1.313 slugging percentage. He was also perfect in his 29 fielding chances.
Cotten has hit safely in his last 11 games, where he has led the Pioneers to a 10-1 record during that span.
The Pioneers (19-13) return home on Tuesday when they host Pfeiffer University for a 7 p.m. contest at Pioneer Park. Tuesday is "Take-A-Kid to the Ball Game" Night with children ages 13 and under getting in free. Adults accompanying children will be admitted for $1.
