ATHENS, W.Va. ---
The Tusculum College baseball team pounded out 15 hits, including
Matt Webb's 3-for-5 effort as the Pioneers
defeated Concord University 10-1 Thursday afternoon at Anderson
Field. The scheduled doubleheader was shortened to a nine-inning
contest due to inclement weather.
Tusculum starter Boo Morrow earned his first
collegiate victory as he tossed seven innings, allowed six hits, a
run, walked three and struck out two. Ryan Pfelger
and Carlos Ortiz pitched the final two innings as
they retired the Mountain Lions in order
Maikol Gonzalez highlighted a four-run, third
inning for Tusculum as he connected on a three-run homer as the
Pioneers jumped out to a 6-1 advantage. TC batted around in the
fifth inning as the Pioneers plated three runs, including a RBI
triple by Webb and a run-scoring double off the bat of
Dustin Morrow.
Gonzalez finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI, while
Andrew Winslow, Aaron Porter and
Aaron Hudgins all accounted for multi-hit
games.
Tusculum (21-9) returns to Tennessee to face South Atlantic
Conference rival Carson-Newman College for a three-game series in
Jefferson City, beginning with Saturday's noon doubleheader.
