CRUSADERS SWEEP TUSCULUM BASEBALL

TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- The North Greenville baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader over 15th-ranked Tusculum College Tuesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Crusaders (5-8) won the first game 7-4 and captured the night-cap 5-1.

In the opening game, the Pioneers pounded out 14 hits, including Carlos Rivera who went 4-for-4, including a triple. Paul Finger added three hits, while Maikol Gonzalez and Marc Hyndsman accounted for two hits each.

In the second game, the Crusaders got all the offense it would need in a five-run third inning, while Bruce Whitehead tossed a one-run, one-hit complete game as NGU won 5-1.

Tusculum's lone hit came from Mark Dean's with his two-out single in the fourth inning. Dean's also accounted for the Pioneers' run when he was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Hyndsman.

Tusculum is back in action this weekend when TC hosts Catawba College for a three-game South Atlantic Conference series, beginning with Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader at Pioneer Park.
