GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College’s Carlos Rivera went 4-for-6 and the Pioneers recorded 15 stolen bases as TC swept Davis and Elkins College Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park. The 18th-ranked Pioneers won the opener 7-1 and followed with a 12-3 victory in the night cap as Tusculum remains undefeated on the season (5-0).
In the opener, the Pioneers established a new school record as TC recorded 12 stolen bases, including four each by Rivera and Ricky Feliz, both new school marks.
Rivera and Feliz each accounted for three hits each in the first game, while Christian Rosa tallied three RBI in the win.
Tusculum pitcher Raymond Ruggles posted his second win in as many starts as he scattered eight hits over his six innings of work, allowing one run, walked none and struck out seven. Michael Handley pitched the final three innings to record his first save of the year.
In the second game, Tusculum erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning as the Pioneers won 12-3. TC accounted for 10 hits, including two each by Maikol Gonzalez and Marc Hyndsman.
Kevin Hammons fanned seven and allowed one hit in his four innings of action in his first outing of the season. The TC pitching staff struck out 14 Senators in the seven-inning second game.
Both clubs will close out the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at Pioneer Park.
