Tusculum College shortstop Maikol Gonzalez has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday.

Gonzalez, a 6-0, 185-pound native of Maraca Ibo, Venezuela, batted .667 (8-for-12) as the No. 25 Pioneers went 3-0 at the Preseason SAC Tournament in Kannapolis, N.C.

He went 4-for-4 in Tusculum's 13-2 opening win over Newberry College. Gonzalez accounted for a double and three RBI to along with a stolen base in the win over the Indians.

He followed that effort going 2-for-4 in TC's 10-2 victory over Wingate University, where he added a triple, a RBI and scored a run.

In the final game of the tournament, he went 2-for-4 again in the Pioneers' 6-1 win over No. 28 Catawba College. In that contest, he tallied a pair of hits and scored a run in the victory over the nationally-ranked Catawba Indians.

The SAC Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's nine sports information directors.
