Carson-Newman edges Tusculum in rematch

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team made the return trip to Carson-Newman on Wednesday (Mar. 26), falling in the decisive flight.

Tusculum (4-8, 2-4 SAC) heads to Chattanooga for a tri-match on Saturday (Mar. 29), featuring UT Martin (1 p.m.) and the host Mocs (3 p.m.).

Carson-Newman needed a three-set, overtime matchup at the third flight to pull off the victory and keep its perfect conference start.

Ryann Gallagher and Morgan Willis won the first set 21-19 before the Eagles won 21-17, 19-17 to take the match.

The top flight of Brynn Smith and Hannah Marsh pulled off a comeback by scores of 18-21, 21-12, 15-8.

The 2's of Mia Johnson and Kassidy Mercado dropped a 21-11, 21-17 result.

Katie Murphy and Nyah Goss teamed up at the fourth flight, withstanding a 23-21, 21-19 decision.

At the fifth flight, Landry Tea and Kyla Oppenhuis nearly forced a third set but fell 21-16, 21-19.
