
FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team dropped both matches at the Shoals Beach Bash, hosted by North Alabama. The second day of the event has been canceled due to weather.
After day two's cancellation, Tusculum (4-6) will next play host to archrival Carson-Newman on Wednesday (Mar. 19) for a 2 p.m. contest.
Match 1: Austin Peay 3, Tusculum 2
The Pioneers nearly pulled off the upset of the Division I Govs.
At No. 2, Hannah Marsh and Brynn Smith eased their way to a 21-14, 21-10 victory.
Kyla Oppenhuis and Landry Tea pushed the final flight to a decisive third set and came out victorious, 20-22, 21-11, 15-11.
The top flight of Morgan Willis and Ryann Gallagher fell 22-20, 21-10, while the 3's (Sofia Richmond and Mia Johnson) dropped a 21-11, 21-13 decision.
Katie Murphy and Kassidy Mercado lost the fourth pairing 21-13 21-11.
Match 2: Missouri State 5, Tusculum 0
The Bears swept TU to win their ninth-straight contest to open the season.
Marsh and Smith moved up to the top flight, falling in three sets: 20-22, 21-19, 12-15.
Willis and Gallagher were bumped to the 2's, also dropping a three-set decision by scores of 15-21, 22-20, 11-15.
The middle two pairs were switched as Johnson and Mercado lost 21-18, 21-12 at No. 3 and Murphy and Richmond were on the wrong side of a 21-8, 21-14 score.
Oppenhuis and Tea went to a third set for the second-straight match, suffering a 21-18, 12-21, 10-15 setback.
