
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Tuesday (Mar. 11), falling to Chattanooga before sweeping Lynchburg on the Pioneers' Senior Day.
Tusculum (4-4) travels to the UNA Invitational this weekend (Mar. 14-15), where it will face Chattanooga, host North Alabama, Missouri State, and Austin Peay.
Match 1: Chattanooga 5, Tusculum 0
The Mocs swept five out of six flights to blank the Pioneers in the opener.
Lindy Carter and Kassidy Mercado fell in the exhibition sixth flight by scores of 21-5, 21-7.
The No. 5 pairing of Nyah Goss and Katie Murphy were downed 21-11, 21-10.
The 4's were the lone flight to force a decisive third set as Landry Tea and Kyla Oppenhuis dropped a 21-10, 15-21, 15-11 decision.
Mia Johnson and Sofia Richmond lost their third flight match 21-14, 21-15.
Ryann Gallagher and Morgan Willis nearly forced a third set in their 21-11, 26-24 loss.
The score was finalized as Hannah Marsh and Brynn Smith suffered a 21-16, 21-9 setback at the top flight.
Match 2: Tusculum 5, Lynchburg 0
The Pioneers responded after Senior Day celebrations with a sweep of the Hornets.
Carter and Mercado dominated the exhibition flight by scores of 21-10, 21-8.
Murphy and Goss got TU on the board with a 21-5, 21-15 win at No. 4.
Tea and Oppenhuis weren't far behind with their 21-8, 21-9 victory in the fifth flight.
The second pairing of Smith and Marsh clinched the match with a 21-13, 21-12 showing.
Both the first and third flights needed a decisive third frame.
Johnson and Richmond avoided the reverse sweep with a 21-19, 9-21, 15-13 triumph.
Willis and Gallagher won the No. 1 slot with a come from behind 19-21, 21-13, 15-6 score.
