Pioneers fall to Govs in Grand Sands Tournament opener

LOVELAND, Ohio. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team fell short to Austin Peay in the opener of the Grand Sands Tournament before sweeping Liberty's club team on Friday (Feb. 23).

Next, Tusculum (2-1) finishes up the Grand Sands Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 24) with Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.

Match 1: Austin Peay 3, Tusculum 2
The Nos. 1 and 4 pairs picked up the victories for the Pioneers.

Brynn Smith and Kyla Oppenhuis won 21-18, 21-13 as the top flight.

Hannah Marsh and Riley Rushing recorded a 21-17, 26-24 decision.

At No. 2, Olivia Browne and Morgan Browne fell in a three-set battle 14-21, 21-16, 6-15.

In the third flight, Katie McLamb and Charlyn Miller dropped a straight-set matchup.

Mia Johnson and Sage Dunne lost a 21-11, 21-15 contest.

In the sixth exhibition flight, Diana Bierwagen fell in three sets, 21-11, 12-21, 10-15.

Match 2: Tusculum 5, Liberty 0
The Pioneers won all six matchups, including the exhibition flight against the club squad.
