Tusculum sweeps opening day at TMU

CLEVELAND, Ga. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team won both of its opening day matches at the Truett McConnell tri-match on Saturday (Feb. 17) by scores of 4-1.

Next, Tusculum (2-0) is scheduled to compete at the Grand Sands Tournament (Feb. 23-24), taking on Austin Peay, Liberty's club team, Eastern Kentucky, and Morehead State.

Match 1: Tusculum 4, Truett McConnell 1
The Pioneers won all of its flights in straight sets against the Bears, excluding a loss at No. 1 in three sets.

The graduate transfer twins, Olivia Browne and Morgan Browne won their debut match as Pioneers by scores of 21-7, 21-11 at the No. 2 slot.

Charlyn Miller and Katie McLamb teamed up at No. 3 to win a tight battle, 21-17, 21-19.

At No. 4, Hannah Marsh and Riley Rushing won a 21-11, 21-14 showing.

Katie Murphy and freshman Morgan Willis were on the right end of a 21-9, 21-17 decision.

At the exhibition sixth flight, Diana Bierwagen and Addison Williams were victorious by scores of 21-9, 21-12.

The top flight of freshman Brynn Smith and Kyla Oppenhuis dropped a close 24-22, 19-21, 12-15 matchup.

Match 2: Tusculum 4, Berry 1
The lone loss came at the No. 5 slot as the scores were closer in the second match of the day. The Browne sisters, Miller/McLamb, Marsh/Rushing, and Murphy/Willis were a perfect 2-0 at the event.

Smith and Oppenhuis rebounded with a 21-19, 17-21, 17-15 decision to split their outing.

The Brownes went 21-7, 21-19 in their pairing.

Miller and McLamb blew past their opposites at No. 3, 21-10, 21-12.

Marsh and Rushing also made quick work of their matchup, 21-10, 21-15.

The exhibition flight featured Murphy and Willis winning 21-18, 26-24.

At No. 5, Bierwagen and Williams finished with a 21-13, 21-10 deficit.
