Tusculum completes season at AVCA Championships

TAVARES, Fla. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team (11-14) finished up the 2023 season at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships by splitting the Bronze A pool, sweeping Wayne State (Neb.) before falling to Eckerd.

Match 1: Tusculum 3, Wayne State (Neb.) 0
The Pioneers just needed three flights to clinch the day's opener over the Wildcats.

Emma Johnson and Hannah Marsh moved to 7-2 at the second flight with their 21-19, 21-14 decision.

Charlyn Miller and Katie McLamb picked up their team-leading 18th win as a duo with a straight-set domination: 21-12, 21-14.

Kyla Oppenhuis and Landry Tea continued their run as a perfect pair with their sixth-straight win, all at No. 5. The twosome pulled out a 21-16, 24-22 victory.

Match 2: Eckerd 3, Tusculum 2
TU finished the season a point away from the Bronze A title at AVCA annual event.

Miller and McLamb continued their winning ways with a quick 21-13, 21-12 victory.

Tea and Oppenhuis finished spotless by breezing to a 21-10, 21-10 outcome.

The top three flights came out on the wrong side of each decision, including a pair of three-setters.

Jordyn Anderson and Riley Rushing fell at the top flight 21-14, 21-10.

Johnson and Marsh suffered a 21-18, 17-21, 9-15 come from behind win by the Tritons.

Kassidy Mercado and Morgan Pacione nearly pulled off a comeback, but came up just short 13-21, 21-18, 13-15.
