TAVARES, Fla. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team competed on day two of the AVCA Small College Beach Championships on Saturday (Apr. 15), splitting its matches against a pair of Florida schools.
Tusculum (10-13) wraps up its 2023 season with the DII Bronze A Pool on Sunday (Apr. 16). The Pioneers will begin the round robin against Wayne State (Neb.) at 10:30 a.m., followed by Eckerd at 1 p.m.
Match 1: Saint Leo 3, Tusculum 2
The Nos. 4-5 once again picked up the opening wins, while a tight second flight was the deciding factor.
Charlyn Miller and Katie McLamb won their match by the slimmest of margins, 21-19, 23-21.
The 5's of Landry Tea and Kyla Oppenhuis battled to a three set comeback: 16-21, 22-20, 15-11.
The top flight of Jordyn Anderson and Riley Rushing dropped a 21-17, 21-12 showing.
Kassidy Mercado and Morgan Pacione fell 21-12, 21-13 at the third flight.
Emma Johnson and Hannah Marsh nearly pulled off a reverse sweep, but came up just short at No. 2: 20-22, 21-18, 14-16.
Match 2: Tusculum 3, Florida Southern 0
The Pioneers needed just three flights to clinch the match over the Mocs, all in straight sets.
Anderson and Rushing won by identical 21-17, 21-17 scores.
Johnson and Marsh earned their 16th win as a pair with a 21-12, 21-15 decision.
Rounding out their perfect day were Miller and McLamb, who breezed to a 21-9, 21-15 victory.
