Tusculum sends seniors out in style

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team swept its Senior Day tri-match on Saturday (Apr. 2), downing Lincoln Memorial and Erskine. The Pioneers celebrated the careers of Haley Davis, Grace Garrett, Skyellar Hall, Emily Lawless, Destiny Ramsey, and Arizona Webb.

Tusculum (15-9) is set to host the SAC Beach Challenge next weekend (Apr. 8-9), consisting of a round-robin with Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial, and Catawba. The Pioneers will attempt to win back-to-back titles.

Match 1: Tusculum 4, Lincoln Memorial 1
The Railsplitters forced the final two flights into a decisive third set, but the Pioneers had already claimed the victory.

Davis and Charlyn Miller led off with a 21-4, 21-18 thumping over their No. 2 opposites.

Katie McLamb and Olivia Knutson continued their dominance at the fourth flight, 21-11, 21-13.

Lawless and Hall earned TU its 3-0 advantage, thereby clinching the match with a 21-15, 21-12 at No. 5.

Emma Johnson and Olivia O'Keefe won the first set 21-10, but LMU fired back with a 21-16 set two victory. The final frame of the top flight went to the Pioneers 15-9.

The Railsplitters were able to outlast Britney Shawel and Landry Tea at No. 3 for their lone point, 11-21, 24-22, 15-7.

Match 2: Tusculum 3, Erskine 2
At No. 2, Davis and Miller finished out Senior Day with the crucial clincher over the Flying Fleet to seal the perfect sendoff, 21-18, 21-9.

Johnson and O'Keefe lost the three-set comeback attempt at the top flight, 11-21, 21-17, 9-15.

Shawel and Tea bounced back with a 21-19, 21-16 decision.

McLamb and Knutson completed their perfect day as the 4's with a reverse sweep, 15-21, 21-12, 15-8.

Lawless and Hall dropped their No. 5 flight match in three sets, 13-21, 21-16, 9-15.

Diana Bierwagen and Webb lost their exhibition showing 21-18, 21-12.
