MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to its Division I counterparts at the College of Charleston Beach Bash on Saturday, March 26.
Tusculum (11-9) continues at the event on Sunday (Mar. 27), taking on Texas A&M Kingsville at 9 a.m. and Catawba at 1 p.m.
Match 1: UNC Wilmington 5, Tusculum 0
The Seahawks used the third flight as the clincher to down the Pioneers in TU's first match at the event.
Haley Davis and Charlyn Miller partnered up at No. 3 for the first time this season, falling in a pair of tight sets: 21-19, 21-17.
The 4's of Katie McLamb and Olivia Knutson dropped their matchup by identical 21-18, 21-18 scores.
The duo of Arizona Webb and Diana Bierwagen needed a third set to determine a winner, but came out on the short end: 19-21, 22-20, 15-9.
Emma Johnson and Olivia O'Keefe remained at the top spot for the second-straight weekend, yet lost 21-18, 21-16.
Britney Shawel and Landry Tea moved up for their first appearance in the second flight, resulting in a 21-17, 21-14 loss.
In the exhibition sixth slot, Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless were headed to a decisive third set (21-19, 18-21), but the match went unfinished.
Match 2: College of Charleston 4, Tusculum 1
Hall and Lawless were bumped up to the fifth flight, collecting the lone win for TU against the hosting Cougars in a three-set battle, 9-21, 21-19, 15-11.
Johnson and O'Keefe fell at No. 1 (21-18, 21-15), while the 2's of Shawel and Tea collected an 11-21, 13-21 decision.
In the third flight, Davis and Miller lost 21-18, 21-18.
The No. 4 slot with Knutson and McLamb ended with an identical 21-13, 21-13 final in the home team's favor.
Once again, the exhibition match needed a third set, but Webb and Bierwagen were unable to finish with a 21-17, 15-21 score.
