CONWAY, S.C. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team competed at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Saturday, winning the opener over Jacksonville State and dropping the finale versus the hosting Chanticleers.
Tusculum (11-7) has a week off before taking part in the two-day College of Charleston Beach Blast, running from March 26-27.
Match 1: Tusculum 3, Jacksonville State 2
Head coach Jason Morris revamped the lineup for the event as the Pioneers picked up their 11th win of the season.
Emma Johnson and Olivia O'Keefe partnered up at the top flight and fell in their first match together: 23-21, 21-17.
Haley Davis and Charlyn Miller made up the No. 2 slot, collecting a 21-9, 21-17 winning decision.
Britney Shawel and Landry Tea moved up to the third flight, dropping a three-set battle: 21-11, 19-21, 11-15.
Katie McLamb and Olivia Knutson rebounded in a strong way, taking down their No. 4 opposites 21-13, 18-21, 15-11.
Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless also needed three sets to tally their fifth flight win, 14-21, 21-14, 15-9.
In the exhibition slot, Destiny Ramsey and Morgan Pacione have won five-straight as partners after a 14-21, 21-17, 15-5 comeback.
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 4, Tusculum 1
McLamb and Knutson are six for their last seven matches, including the lone point against Coastal Carolina via a 21-19, 21-11 showing.
The 5's of Lawless and Hall fell 21-18, 21-14, followed by Tea and Shawel at No.2, 21-14, 21-16.
O'Keefe and Johnson dropped their top flight outing 21-14, 21-13, while the third pair of Miller and Davis lost 21-15, 21-17.
