LAURINBURG, N.C. --- Emma Johnson and Haley Davis became the winningest pair in Tusculum University beach volleyball history on Saturday (Feb. 12) after completing the weekend sweep at the St. Andrews tournament. TU is off to the program's best start at 5-0.
The Pioneers have a week off before hosting their first event on their brand new courts. The doubleheader versus Truett McConnell is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on February 19.
Match 1: Tusculum 5, St. Andrews 0
The Pioneers won in straight sets over the hosting Knights, with overtime being needed in just one frame.
The top flight of Olivia O'Keefe and Charlyn Miller skated by their counterparts with a 21-6, 21-7 victory.
At No. 2, Johnson and Davis edged out a 21-15 set one decision before trouncing their opposites 21-2 to clinch.
Britney Shawel and Landry Tea eased through flight three with a 21-6, 21-5 score.
Olivia Knutson and Katie McLamb tallied a 21-10 set one with St. Andrews closing the gap to 22-20 in the second frame.
Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless rounded out the point total with their 21-15, 21-20 counter.
Arizona Webb and Diana Bierwagen appeared in the sixth flight match up, collecting the 21-10, 21-9 exhibition finish.
Match 2: Tusculum 5, Lincoln Memorial 0
The Black and Orange made even quicker work of the Railsplitters in their second meeting in as many days.
The Miller/O'Keefe duo had the tightest final line of the entire match as the No. 1 pair, 21-13, 21-14, while the four's Knutson and McLamb had the biggest advantage, 21-8, 21-6.
In the record-setting win, Johnson and Davis nearly doubled up the competition with their 21-6, 21-16 finish.
Shawel and Tea collected identical 21-11, 21-11 set scores in the third flight.
Lawless teamed up with Hall once again at No. 5. The pairing recorded a 21-9, 21-11 victory in their tournament finale.
