FORT WAYNE, Ind. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball dropped a pair of matches on the first day of the 2nd Annual Principia Bash, a tight 3-2 contest against Stevenson and a 4-1 loss to Park (Mo.).
Tusculum returns to action on Saturday as they continue to compete in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Empowered Sports Complex. The Pioneers will face Bryant & Stratton (8:00 a.m.) and the host Principia (2:00 p.m.) to wrap up the tournament.
In the match against Stevenson, the No. 1 and No. 2 pairs lost in straight sets. Maddie Bass and Emily Lawless, the fourth flight, won both sets with a score of 21-14. The pair of Danika Chaney and Britney Shawel defeated the No. 5 Mustang pair 21-13, 21-18. With the match tied at 2-all, the third pairing of Stephanie Cho and Haley Davis went to a deciding third set, falling 17-15 in the frame. Katelyn Weems and Skyellar Hall competed in an exhibition flight, cruising to a 21-16, 21-8 victory.
Tusculum took just one point from the Park Pirates in its second match of the day, courtesy of Cho and Davis. They downed the No. 3 pair 21-19, 21-17. Weems and Hall once again won their exhibition match, finishing with scores of 21-14, 24-22.
