Wingo, Green-White named Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. –- Tusculum University outside hitter Deklan Wingo and sprinter Theresa Green-White have been named the Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for March.

Wingo, a senior from Chester, Virginia averaged 4.59 kills per set and posted a .311 hitting percentage to lead TU men's volleyball team to a 6-2 record during the month. He accounted for 176 points for the Pioneers which included 147 total kills, 17 service aces and 15 total blocks (9 solos, 6 assists). He also averaged 1.53 digs per set and dished out five assists.

In his eight matches, he posted double-digit kills on seven occasions including three times with 20 or more. He tallied 19 digs and a 4.29 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win over Lees-McRae. He recorded a double-double with 18 points and 21 digs in TU's 3-1 victory over Belmont Abbey. He recorded 26 kills and a .488 hitting percentage in a 3-2 road win at Charleston. He closed out the month with 21 kills in TU's 3-2 reverse sweep at Thomas More.

Wingo leads the nation in kills (4.86 kps), attacks (9.94 aps) and points per set (5.55 pps). His .335 hitting percentage this season is ranked sixth in the IVA and 25th in the NCAA. His 0.358 service aces per set average is ranked seventh in the conference and 44th nationally. Tusculum's 13-10 record is the best in program history and has already established a new single-season record for wins.

Green-White, a junior from Stafford, Texas, earned All-America honors with her seventh place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship last month in Indianapolis.

She qualified for the finals with a school-record time of 8.42 seconds in the preliminaries. She ran 8.44 seconds in the finals to become the first Tusculum female athlete to earn indoor All-America distinction in competition.

At last weekend's outdoor meet at the Blue Bear Invite, Green-White was a member of TU's 4x100 relay which posted a time of 44.91 seconds which at the moment of the race was the fastest time in NCAA II this season. It also broke their own school record of 45.85 seconds set a week earlier at Appalachian State.

The Tusculum Student-Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar of Greeneville.  The Applebee's Student-Athlete of the Month Award honors one male and one female student-athlete each month from an in-season sport during the 2024-25 academic year, recognizing their hard work, effort and performance.
