Vital, Adkins named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum forward J-P Vital and setter Madison Adkiins have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. Adkins earns Zaxby's honors for a third time this fall, while Vital garners his second player of the week accolade.

Vital scored both goals for the Pioneers in their 2-1 victory over Concord in their only match of the week last Wednesday. The Greeneville, Tennessee native scored in the third minute for a quick 1-0 Tusculum lead, then connected on the eventual match-winner in the 64th minute to break a 1-1 deadlock.

Vital leads the Pioneers in goals (6) and points (13) and also leads the squad in match-winning goals (3) and shots on goal (17). His six goals are tied for seventh-most in the South Atlantic Conference this season, while his three game-winners are tied for fourth in the league.

Adkins, a junior from Olive Hill, Kentucky, posted 37 assists, eight digs and three blocks in a 3-0 SAC win at UVA Wise. She finished the game with a .200 hitting percentage and also had a service ace.

She leads the team in assists averaging 8.16 per set (5^th in SAC), while her 0.50 service aces per set average is fourth-best in the league and 53^rd in NCAA Division II.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
