Jordan & Tia Daniel named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum lacrosse players Jordan and Tia Daniel have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. The Daniels, who were married this past year, become the first husband and wife duo to earn player of the week accolades.

Jordan Daniel set career highs with six goals and five assists for 11 points as the Pioneers beat Chowan 18-17 on Saturday. His six goals and five assists are each tied for the third-most in a single game in program history, while the 11 points are the second-most in a game by a Pioneer. Jordan was involved in all seven goals for the Pioneers in the second half, scoring four times and assisting on three others, including the eventual winning goal with 8:12 remaining.

Jordan has six goals and six assists for 12 points in two matches this season for the Pioneers, who are off to a 2-0 start for the third consecutive season. His 66 career assists are nine shy of the program record of 75 held by Liam Macdonald (2017-20), and he ranks eighth in program history with 113 points in 50 games.

Tia Daniel tallied four goals and three assists and had a career-high 12 draw controls in Tusculum's 15-7 victory over Charleston Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. She scored twice in each half and also had two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the victory. Tia's 12 draw controls were one off the program single-game record of 13, and her three assists tied her career high which she set three times last season.

Tia has seven goals and three assists for 10 points in the Pioneers' first two games, and lead the team with 15 draw controls. She is two goals away from becoming the fifth player in program history to score 100 career goals, and is five draw controls away from becoming the fourth Pioneer with 100 in a career.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
