GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University baseball outfielder Kyle Williams and women's soccer forward Tina Haig have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Williams, a junior from Yuba City, California, batted .571 on the week to lead the Pioneers to a perfect 5-0 record including a four-game sweep over UVA Wise to open South Atlantic Conference play.
Williams went 8-of-14 on the week including 7-of-11 (.636) in the UVA Wise series. He accounted for four doubles, six RBI, seven walks and did not strikeout in his 22 plate appearances. He also finished with a .714 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage.
He started the week going 1-for-3 with three walks and a RBI in Tusculum's 16-10 road win in 11 innings at Young Harris. In the series opener with UVA Wise, Williams went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in TU's 6-3 win. He followed with another 3-hit performance in the series' second game while tallying another double and scored three times.
On the season, Williams is batting .391 and leads the team with 10 walks.
Haig finished with a goal and an assist as the Pioneers defeated Mars Hill 4-0 in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Thursday night. Haig scored on a header in the ninth minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead, then assisted on the final goal of the evening by Brooke Radcliffe in the 88th minute.
The Fort Washington, Pennsylvania native was the Pioneers' leading scorer as a freshman with four goals in 15 matches, including one game-winner. Four of Haig's six shots through the first two matches this season have been on target.
