GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University sprinter Widchard Guervil and softball catcher Chloe Freischmidt have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Competing at the USC Open in Columbia, South Carolina, Guervil won the men's 60 meters in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.72 seconds. The junior from Fort Myers, Florida also provisionally qualified for the 200 meters with a school-record time of 21.29 seconds, good for a third-place finish in Saturday's competition.
Freischmidt (Naples, Fla.) batted .545 going 6-for-11 including two grand slams to lead Tusculum to a perfect 4-0 record during the week to improve to 10-2 on the season (best start in program history). She went 3-for-5 with a double and a grand slam and 6 RBI in a DH sweep of Cedarville as the Pioneers outscored the opposition 25-4. She followed with three hits in a sweep of Davis & Elkins including her second grand slam in as many days in game one and her 2-out walk-off single in game two. She finished the week with a 1.273 slugging percentage and did not make an error in her 22 total fielding chances.
