
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University baseball catcher Nate Montgomery and softball utility player Anna Alloway have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Montgomery batted .533 and drove in 11 runs batted in as the TU baseball team went 2-2 last week. He recorded three hits including a grand slam as the Pioneers swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader over Lenoir-Rhyne University last Monday in the regular season finale. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Tusculum's 6-5 win over the Bears in the first game. In the night-cap, Montgomery made TU's first hit of the game count with a grand slam for his fourth home run of the season in the Pioneers won 5-4 in nine innings.
The Geneva, Illinois senior batted 5-for-8 in the SAC Tournament in Kodak, Tennessee as the Pioneers lost 5-4 to 11th-ranked Catawba College and dropped a 10-6 decision to No. 10 and top-seeded Newberry College to end TU's season. At the SAC Tournament, Montgomery went 3-for-5 with two RBI against Catawba and followed going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double versus Newberry.
For the week, he went 8-of-15 in his four games and was perfect in the field in his 30 total fielding chances. He led the Pioneers this season with 68 hits and 48 RBI, while also finishing second with a .358 batting average, 12 doubles and four home runs.
Alloway went 5-for-8 with a home run and eight runs batted in as the Pioneers split a season-ending doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne last Monday. In game one, Alloway accounted for five of the Pioneers' six runs with a two-run double in the first inning and a three-run home run in the third of an 11-6 loss. In game two, Alloway was 2-for-5 and drove in three runs as the Pioneers held on for an 8-7 win over the Bears, delivering a two-run single in the first and an RBI single in the second.
The Louisville, Tenn. native finished the season with a .321 average, four home runs and 29 runs batted in. Alloway was second on the team in both home runs and RBIs and third on the Pioneers in batting average. In 109 at-bats this season, Alloway struck out just seven times. She is a career .328 hitter with 11 home runs and 58 RBI in 88 games for the Pioneers.
